Thomas F. Quinlan

Thomas F. Quinlan SSCME (born September 13, 1896 in Borrisoleigh , Ireland ; † December 31, 1970 ) was an Irish bishop who presided over the Chunchon diocese in Korea from 1940 to 1966.

Life

Thomas Quinlan studied for four years at St. Patrick's College, Thurles , and then joined the St. Columban Mission Society . He was ordained a priest with three others on February 2, 1920 and was transferred to Han-yang Province in China. Missionaries were at risk of violence and kidnapping during his time in China. After returning to Ireland, he was sent to Korea. There he experienced the Second World War. On December 8, 1940, he was appointed Prefect of Shunsen. He resigned from this on February 9, 1942.

He was held by the communists along with Bishop Patrick James Byrne MM, who died and was buried in Quinlan. On November 12, 1948, he was reappointed Prefect of Chunchon. On September 20, 1955, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Fornos Maior and Vicar Apostolic of Chunchon. On 23 November 1955 he donated Maximilien de Furstenberg , the episcopal ordination ; Co -consecrators were Adrien-Joseph Larribeau and John Baptist Sye Bong-Kil .

On May 10, 1962, he was appointed Bishop of Chuncheon. On November 16, 1965, he resigned as diocesan bishop and was appointed titular bishop of Bocconia .
