Thomas Fuller (* 1608 in Aldwinkle ; † August 16, 1661 ) was an English historian .

Thomas Fuller was the eldest son of Pastor Thomas Fuller in Aldwinkle, Northamptonshire . He was born in his father's parsonage and baptized on June 19, 1608. Dr. John Davenant, who later became Bishop of Salisbury , was his uncle and godfather. According to John Aubrey , Thomas Fuller was a boy full of wit and wit who had a very good memory, which he trained consciously. When he was thirteen he was accepted into Queens' College , Cambridge . His cousin Edward Davenant worked there as a tutor. Fuller was very successful and he got the BA in the 1624-1625 semester and the MA in July 1628. After he was overlooked in an election of the college fellows , he moved in November 1628 to Sidney Sussex College , Cambridge. In 1630 he was appointed curate of St. Benet's, Cambridge, by Corpus Christi College .

Soon, Fuller's rhetoric attracted attention. In 1631 he published the poems David's Hainous Senses, Heartie Repentance, Heavie Punishment , which are continuously to be regarded as one work and are about David , King of Israel. In June of that year his uncle gave him a benefit in Salisbury . There his father, who died the following year, held the canonical office.

The parishes of Broadwindsor, Dorset, and then the administration of the Diocese of Bristol (1634) showed his rise; and on June 11, 1635 he performed the function of BD in Broadwindsor. Here he wrote The Historie of the Holy Warre (1639), the History of the Crusades, and The Holy State and the Prophane State (1642). This work, one of his most successful works, describes the holy state consisting of family and profession. The work prescribes rules of behavior and behavior, as well as ideal characteristics for different professions and ways of life.
