Thomas Gerlach (diplomat)

Thomas Gerlach (* 1951 in Kempen , Niederrhein ) is a German diplomat and is currently Consul General in Izmir .

Life

After graduating from high school , Gerlach studied English and history at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich , completing this course with the first and second state examinations for higher education.

In 1981 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career test for the higher civil service, found positions in the Foreign Office in Bonn and Berlin as well as at the diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka , Libya , Boston , Strasbourg and the Czech Republic . After being Consul General in Sibiu for the first time from 2005 to 2007, he became permanent representative of the Consul General in Milan .

On August 31, 2009, Thomas Gerlach again became consul in Sibiu and was thus responsible for the consular representation of the Federal Republic in Transylvania based in the former Sibiu.
