Thomas Hansjakob

Thomas Hansjakob (born February 13, 1956 in Bern ; legal resident in Bern and St. Gallen; † January 4, 2018 in St. Gallen ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( SP ).

Life

Thomas Hansjakob studied law and economics at the University of Bern and the University of St. Gallen . In 1988 he became the University of St. Gallen Dr. iur. PhD.

Hansjakob has worked in law enforcement in the canton of St. Gallen since 1988 . He was a cantonal examining magistrate, from 2004 chief public prosecutor of the investigative office of St. Gallen and since 2007 first public prosecutor of the canton of St. Gallen. He was the initiator of the “fast-track trial”: transfer, arrest, interrogation and a penalty order within 24 hours.

He has published numerous scientific articles and papers and was co-editor of the commentary on the Swiss Code of Criminal Procedure. He held teaching positions at the University of St. Gallen and the University of Lucerne . In 2017 he was honored for his work by the University of St. Gallen with an honorary doctorate in law for his work in the criminal code and criminal procedure code.

Thomas Hansjakob was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SP) from 1982. In 1989 he became a member of the building police commission. From 1997 to 2000 he was a member of the Grand Council of the City of St. Gallen. From 2000 to 2004 he was a member of the Cantonal Council of the Canton of St. Gallen.

He was married and had four children.
