Thomas Hermsdorfer

Thomas Hermsdorfer (born July 2, 1967 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ; † December 2, 2019 ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Thomas Hermsdorfer began studying business administration (distance learning business administration). From 1993 he worked in Chemnitz as a project manager in the construction division. From 2002 he was a member of the supervisory board of Singa-Assekuranz AG and from the first half of 2007 was managing director of APW Consult GmbH. Hermsdorfer worked as a freelance entrepreneur in Berlin and Chemnitz.

Political career

Thomas Hermsdorfer was a member of the CDU and the Junge Union (JU) from 1990 . Within his party, he was a member of the state executive committee and district chairman of the JU from 1990 to 1995 . From 1997 to 2005 he was the district chairman of the Chemnitz CDU. In 2006/07 he also took over the management of the CDU's Economic Committee in Saxony.

In October 1994 he was elected as a direct candidate in the constituency of Chemnitz 3 in the Saxon state parliament. In his first electoral term (1994 to 1999) he was youth policy spokesman for his group . In his second electoral term (1999 to 2004) he took over the chairmanship of the committee for rules of procedure and immunity matters and became spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group for science, universities, culture and the media. In the fourth electoral term he represented his group in the Committee on Economy, Labor and Transport, in the Committee on Science and University, Culture and the Media, which he has chaired since December 2007, and in the Committee on Rules of Procedure and Immunity Matters. Thomas Hermsdorfer did not run again as a candidate in the 2009 state elections in Saxony . He left the state parliament in September 2009. His successor, constituency Chemnitz 3, is Ines Saborowski-Richter .

In May 2008 it became known that the public prosecutor was investigating Thomas Hermsdorfer for tax evasion . On March 4, 2010, the Chemnitz District Court issued an additional tax payment and a penalty order for € 7,740 for tax evasion in six cases.

Volunteering

From 1998 to 2007, in his role as a member of the state parliament, he supported the development of student exchange networks with the United States and China. From 1999 to 2003 Thomas Hermsdorfer was chairman of the Saxony section of the German-American Society and a member of the German-Israeli Society . From 1998 to 2004 he was also honorary chairman of the basketball club BV Chemnitz 99 eV
