Thomas Hong-Soon Han (born August 17, 1943 ) is a South Korean economist .

Life

Thomas Hong-Soon Han studied economics and received his doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He is Professor of Economics at the College of Business and Economics at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) in Seoul . He was Dean of the College of Business and Economics from 1988 to 1990 and 1991 to 1993, and Dean of the Graduate School from 2002 to 2004.

In 2006 he became president of the Council for the Apostolate of Catholic Laity in Korea, of which he has been a member since 1984. He succeeded John Bosco's son Byung-doo, who became the first lay president of the Jesuit Sogang University . In 2008 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed first general auditor for economic matters in the Vatican. With the newly created office, Hong-Soon Han is supposed to guarantee economic activity in accordance with the church's social doctrine and, among other things, ensure that the church invests in human resources.

In 2010 he resigned as President of the Council for the Lay Catholic Apostolate in Korea and became the new South Korean Ambassador to the Holy See . He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pontifical Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) .
