Thomas Jorberg

Thomas Jorberg (* 1957 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) is the spokesman for the board of the GLS community bank , a socially and ecologically oriented cooperative bank based in Bochum .

Life

Jorberg spent his youth in Winterbach - Manolzweiler in the Swabian Remstal . He attended the Engelberg Waldorf School and was the first apprentice at GLS Bank in 1977. After completing his apprenticeship as a banker , he studied economics and special business administration from 1980 to 1985 with the elective subject civil law . After a semester at the University of Hohenheim , he moved to the Ruhr University in Bochum , as the GLS Bank offered him a part-time job. Jorberg completed his studies with a degree in economics and has been employed at GLS Bank since 1986.

Jorberg has been a member of the Management Board since 1993 and Management Board Spokesman of GLS Bank since 2003. He is responsible for strategy development, own investment management, asset management, credit customer care, marketing / public relations and the branch business. The main focus of his board activities is the strategic development of the GLS Bank. Since 1995 he has also been a board member of GLS Beteiligungs AG and since 2003 of GLS Energie AG.

Jorberg has been chairman of the supervisory board of Elektrizitätswerke Schönau since 2005 and a member of the supervisory board of Hannoversche Kassen since 2009 . Since 2009 he has been a member of the steering committee of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV), an international alliance of socially and ecologically oriented banks for sustainability in the financial market. Jorberg is a co-founder and member of the board of trustees of the New Energy Foundation and in 2009 was one of the initiators of ruhrmobil-E, an association for the promotion of electromobility . He is a member of various supervisory boards, including the Egyptian initiative Sekem .

Since 2013 he has been a member of the University Council of the Ruhr University Bochum. He often appears as a speaker and publicly advocates rethinking, especially in the financial sector. Jorberg has been a member of the Board of Directors of Weleda AG since June 2020 .

Jorberg is married, has two children and lives in Bochum.

Awards

In 2002 Jorberg received the Stromrebellen-Preis of the Schönau Energy Initiatives . In 2009 he was honored with the future Award (future eV), in 2010 with the BAUM Environment Prize of the Federal German Working Group for Environmentally Conscious Management. In 2011 Jorberg received the German Fairness Award.
