Thomas Müller-Bahlke

Thomas Jakob Müller-Bahlke (born April 20, 1959 in Mexico City ) is a German historian and since 2003 director of the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) and since 2015 honorary professor at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Life

Müller-Bahlke studied history , communication studies and Ibero-Romance literature at the Georg August University in Göttingen . He received a research grant from the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany . In 1991 he was with the thesis The emergence of the Lutheran Church in North America doctorate and was a research associate at the Department of Medieval and Modern History at the University of Goettingen.

In 1992 Müller-Bahlke became a research associate at the Francke Foundations in Halle and head of the foundations archive. His grandfather was the last orphanage pastor in Halle, his father grew up in the foundations. In 2003 he became director of the Francke Foundations as successor to Helmut Obst . Müller-Bahlke is a member of the Historical Commission for Saxony-Anhalt and a member of the board of directors of the Interdisciplinary Center for Pietism Research in Halle. From 2001 to 2011 he was the chairman of the association and from 2011 to 2014 a member of the board of the association for the history of Halle . Since the beginning of 2015 he has been an honorary professor at the University of Halle, on January 28, 2015, the certificate of appointment was handed over by the rector of the University Udo Sträter . In the same year he received the Halle citizen award The donkey that goes on roses . Thomas Müller-Bahlke is the author and editor of numerous specialist publications. From 2015 to 2019 he was chairman of the historical commission for Saxony-Anhalt .
