Thomas Murray junior

Thomas Murray Jr. (* 1770 in Potts Grove , Northumberland County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  August 26, 1823 in East Chillisquaque , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1821 and 1823 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Murray was a cousin of Congressman John Murray (1768-1834). He attended private schools and then worked in agriculture. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . In 1813 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania ; In 1814 he was a member of the State Senate .

After the resignation of Congressman William Cox Ellis , Murray was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on October 9, 1821. Since he renounced another candidacy in 1822, he was only able to end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1823 . He died just a few months later, on August 26, 1823, in East Chillisquaque near Potts Grove.
