Thomas Ricklin

Thomas Ricklin (born May 6, 1963 in Zurich ; † September 23, 2016 ) was a Swiss philosopher .

Life

From 1984 Ricklin studied philosophy as well as Protestant and Catholic theology in Zurich and Friborg . He then worked as a research assistant with Ruedi Imbach at the chair for the history of medieval philosophy. After teaching positions at the École pratique des hautes études , the Università La Sapienza , the University of Lucerne and the University of Friborg, he became a visiting researcher at the Warburg Institute in London . In 2005 Ricklin was appointed professor for the history of ideas and philosophy of the Renaissance at the Ludwig Maximilians University . In 2010 he was appointed Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Religious Studies .

The focus of his work was on philosophical anthropology in the 12th century, the Latin reception of Aristotle's natural philosophy , Dante Alighieri's "Opere minori" and the Italian Renaissance of the 15th century.
