Thomas Stadelmann

Thomas Stadelmann (born October 28, 1958 ; resident in Escholzmatt and Horw ) is a Swiss lawyer and federal judge . He is a member of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP).

Stadelmann completed his law degree at the University of Freiburg and then passed the Lucerne bar and notary examination in 1984. Between 1984 and 1997 he ran his own law firm and notary's office. From 1985 to 1995 he was a clerk at the criminal court of the canton of Lucerne . At the same time he was a legal assistant at the cantonal tax administration in Nidwalden and secretary of the Obwalden tax appeals commission . He served as a part-time judge at the Administrative Court of Lucerne from 1992 to 1997. From 1997 to 2006 he worked as a Lucerne administrative judge and part-time judge at the Federal Tax Appeal Commission. For three years from 2007 he was a judge at the Federal Administrative Court . He was elected a federal judge on December 9, 2009.

In autumn 2018 he published the book "Democracy falling apart" about the development of the judiciary in Turkey ( Stämpfli Verlag , Bern). In 2018, the Law Faculty of the University of Basel awarded him an honorary doctorate in jurisprudence (Dr. hc - Doctor honoris causa)
