Thomas Vinçotte

Baron Thomas Jules Vinçotte (born January 8, 1850 in Antwerp , † March 25, 1925 in Schaerbeek / Schaarbeek ) was a Belgian sculptor and medalist .

Life

Vinçotte studied from 1866 at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles with Joseph Jaquet and Eugène Simonis and then at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris with Jules Cavelier .

Vinçotte quickly became known and won several awards. In 1881 he received the Knight's Cross of the Leopold Order . He became a professor of sculpture at the Académie royale des beaux-arts d ' Anvers and taught there from 1886 to 1921. In 1887 he became an officer of the Order of the Leopold and in 1896 a commander . On behalf of King Leopold II , who made him baron , he created portraits , coins and works for the Palais Royal and the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels. He was a member of the Société des Vingt .

Vinçotte's brother was the engineer Robert Vinçotte .
