Thomas Wunderlich (geodesist)
Thomas Alexander Wunderlich (born May 1, 1955 in Vienna ) is an Austrian geodesist who teaches as a professor of geodesy at the Technical University of Munich .
Life
The son of Walter Wunderlich , a long-time Viennese university professor of geometry , studied surveying at the Vienna University of Technology (diploma thesis on "Measurement and calculation of a spatial polygon in the Vienna test network ") and then became a scientific assistant to Gerhard Brandstätter , and later to Heribert Kahmen . In addition to teaching and research in the field of general Geodesy and Measurement was Wunderlich in subjects Geodesy worked - among others in his dissertation entitled "The ab initio determination of Refraktionswinkeln " that deals with the theory and measurement of a spatial quadrangle at the Hohe Wand (Lower Austrian Limestone Alps ) busy.
Scientific collaborations often took him to the Federal Republic of Germany , in particular to the University of Hanover , where he was a Humboldt fellow in 1987/88 . Hannover handed Wunderlich his habilitation on ( The dangerous loci of pseudoranges measurement, a special problem with high-precision GPS - networks ). As a lecturer , he held lectures and lectures at congresses that dealt, among other things, with innovative methods in engineering geodesy and radio navigation . In 1997 he became an associate professor at the Vienna University of Technology. In 2000 he was offered a position at the Technical University of Munich; it was the reason to expand his field of work to include geodetic deformation analysis , laser scanning and cell phone positioning .
Wunderlich has been a full member of the German Geodetic Commission since 2002 , of which he was permanent secretary in 2008.
