Walter Wunderlich

Walter Wunderlich (born March 6, 1910 in Vienna ; † November 3, 1998 ibid) was an Austrian mathematician and geometer .

biography

Walter Wunderlich studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Vienna from 1928 , later teaching and successfully passed his teaching examination in 1933. In 1934 he received his doctorate from Erwin Kruppa on an affine generalization of the Lyons boundary screwing and obtained his habilitation in 1940 . In the same year he was drafted into military service. From 1946 he taught again at the Technical University of Vienna and in 1951 he was awarded the title of full professor. 1964/65 he was rector of the Vienna University of Technology.

In 1980 he retired , but published around 40 scientific articles from then until he went blind in 1987.

Wunderlich mainly dealt with geometry and kinematics . His scientific work includes over 200 articles.

He was a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 1966 and a full member since 1971 . In addition, he received numerous honors, around 1965 the Great Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria , in 1978 the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class and in 1991 an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Munich .
