Erwin Kruppa

Erwin Kruppa (born August 11, 1885 in Biala-Bielitz , † January 26, 1967 in Vienna ) was an Austrian mathematician .

Kruppa initially studied civil engineering (1st state examination in 1905), but soon recognized his love for mathematics. He spent the last four semesters at the University of Vienna and the Technical University of Vienna , where he was influenced by Gustav von Escherich , Franz Mertens , Wilhelm Wirtinger , Gustav Kohn and above all Emil Müller . In 1907 he passed the teaching examination for mathematics and descriptive geometry . In 1911 he completed his habilitation at the University of Czernowitz , after having completed his doctorate on the axis sonometric method of descriptive geometry with Hans Hahn at the Graz University of Technology . In 1921 he came to the Vienna University of Technology as an associate professor, where he subsequently rose to full professor. In 1929 he took over the first chair for descriptive geometry as the successor to Emil Müller. In 1953/54 he was rector of the Vienna University of Technology.
