Heribert Kahmen (born March 23, 1940 in Senne , Bielefeld district ) is a German geodesist and author of several textbooks . He taught at the Technical University of Vienna . He has now retired.

Life

After studying geodesy at the University of Bonn and the TU Berlin , which he graduated as Dipl.-Ing. graduated, Kahmen was a research assistant in Bonn from 1969 to 1973 and took part in an expedition to Algeria in 1970 . After receiving his doctorate , he moved to Karlsruhe University as a senior engineer in 1973 .

From 1978 to 1986 Heribert Kahmen was professor at the Geodetic Institute of the University of Hanover . Here he developed a robot theodolite for mining and taught surveying and electronic distance measurement (EDM). About the latter, befindliches only in development field , he wrote a highly regarded book Electronic measurement procedures in geodesy , which he called to the Vienna University of Technology earned. Here he expanded the spectrum of engineering geodesy to include new subject areas such as the modeling of geodetic networks and the resulting refraction anomalies , the development of automatically targeting total stations and the monitoring of deformation measurements on large cooling towers and on mountain slopes .

At the IAG , Kahmen was a member of the Special Study Groups SSG 1.42 Electronic Wave Propagation and Refraction in the Atmosphere and SSG 1.68 Terrestrial Interferometric Methods for Geodesy and Geodynamics from 1976 and President of SSG 1.78 Atmospheric effects on terrestrial geodetic measurements from 1983 to 1986 .

At the IAG General Assembly in 1995, Kahmen was elected President of the Special Commission 4 in recognition of his research (Applications of Geodesy to Engineering ) and in 1999 for a second term. Since the reorganization of the international Geodesy 2002, he is Chair of the same, in a permanent subcommittee converted work area .

In addition to the above-mentioned EDM book , Kahmen was also co-author of the 3 volumes of surveying in the Göschen series by Walter Großmann around 1980 , which he combined as the sole author in one volume in 1993 in the 18th edition ( de Gruyter- Verlag) . The well-known textbook was published in its 20th edition in 2006 and was translated into English as a survey .

Together with Armin Grün , Kahmen is also the editor of the proceedings of the special Optical 3-D Measurement Techniques courses , which take place alternately in Vienna and Zurich .
