Thomas Zwiefelhofer (born December 10, 1969 in Grabs ) is a Liechtenstein politician ( VU ). From 2013 to 2017 he was Deputy Prime Minister with responsibility for the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Economy and a member of the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein .

biography

Education and career

Thomas Zwiefelhofer attended from 1981 to 1989, the Liechtenstein Grammar School in Vaduz , where he Federal Matura Type B took off. He then studied architecture at the ETH Zurich until 1996 , graduating with a degree in architecture. This was followed by a two-year career as an architect and project manager at ZRH Architekten AG in Zollikon .

From 1998 to 2000, Zwiefelhofer finally studied law at the University of St. Gallen , where he initially obtained a law degree . Before he entered government in 2013, he worked as a lawyer at Allgemeine Treuunternehmen in Vaduz, where he had also been a member of the management team since 2003. In 2002 he graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Liechtenstein . In 2007 , Zwiefelhofer received his doctorate with the dissertation “The due diligence obligations of Liechtenstein money laundering law compared with the corresponding provisions of Swiss law” at the University of St. Gallen, thereby becoming a doctor of law . In 2009/10 he also completed a Certificate of Advanced Studies in national and international tax law at the University of Liechtenstein. Zwiefelhofer has been a Member of the Group Board at the First Advisory Group in Vaduz since September 1, 2017.

From 2002 to 2006 he was President of the Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts of Liechtenstein . From 2007 to 2013 he was Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Liechtenstein. Zwiefelhofer has been Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in the Principality of Liechtenstein since June 29, 2018.

Political career

From 2007 to 2011, Zwiefelhofer was a member of the Vaduz municipal council for the Fatherland Union, where he held the function of parliamentary group spokesman. Furthermore, from 2009 to 2013 he was party vice-president for the constituency of Oberland and thus one of the party's two vice-presidents.

After he had entered the running as the top candidate for the Fatherland Union in the state elections in Liechtenstein in 2013 , Zwiefelhofer was subsequently elected as deputy head of government in the FBP-VU coalition government on March 27, 2013. As such, he headed the Liechtenstein Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Economy. Due to the performance of his party in the state elections in Liechtenstein in 2017 , in which he was again the top candidate, Zwiefelhofer renounced a new government office and resigned from office with the inauguration of the new government on March 30, 2017.

On February 25, 2017, Zwiefelhofer received the Grand Golden Decoration of Honor on Ribbon for Services to the Republic of Austria from the then Federal Minister of Justice, Wolfgang Brandstetter . On June 8, 2017, he was awarded the Commander's Cross with Star of the Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit .

Private life

Thomas Zwiefelhofer is with Dr. iur. Susanne Zwiefelhofer married and father of three children. He lives with his family in Vaduz.
