Thongchai Jaidee ( Thai : ธงชัย ใจดี - [ tʰoŋ-ʧai ʤai-diː ], born November 8, 1969 in Lop Buri Province , Central Thailand ) is a Thai professional golfer on the Asian Tour and the European Tour .

Career

Thongchai Jaidee started playing golf relatively late, at the age of 16, joined the Royal Thai Army in 1989 and was trained as a paratrooper . He had a successful amateur career with five tournament wins, including the amateur championships in Pakistan , Thailand and Singapore, and did not start his career as a professional golfer until 1999 .

Thongchai turned to the Asian Tour , was soon successful and won the money lists in 2001, 2004 and 2009. In February 2004 he was the first Thai golfer to win a European Tour tournament , the Carlsberg Malaysian Open , an event which was organized together with the Asian Tour. The following year Thongchai was able to defend this title. He was invited to the 2006 Masters and became the first Thai to play all four majors .

In the golf world rankings he is among the top 100, his best ranking in the European Tour Order of Merit was a 19th place in the 2009 season. Thongchai was called up to the Asian team for the 2006 Royal Trophy , a Ryder- style team competition Cups between Asia's and Europe's elite golfers. In the Dynasty Cup he was part of the victorious Asian team in previous matches - 2003 and 2005.

Thongchai Jaidee has been married to Namfon Jaidee since 1998. The two have one child and live in Lop Buri , Thailand .
