Thorin is a chemical compound that is used as an indicator and complexing agent .

properties

Thorin is a red solid that is soluble in water.

use

Thorin is used in water analysis as an indicator for the titrimetric determination of sulfate ions with barium perchlorate solution . Because of its properties as a complexing agent, it is also used to detect certain metal ions. The evidence of thorium ions was the reason for the naming. Thorium (IV) ions can be quantitatively determined photometrically via the red colored complex . Similarly, uranium (IV) salts are quantified in this way.
