Thorsten Pech (born November 3, 1960 in Wuppertal ) is a German church musician .

Life

From 1976 to 1980, Pech studied Protestant church music ( B-exam ) at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf with Hanns-Alfons Siegel (organ), Alberte Brun (piano), Hartmut Schmidt (choir conducting). After completing his postgraduate studies in the organ and participating in various master classes (including Daniel Roth , Anton Heiller ), he completed his artistic maturity examination with Hans-Dieter Möller in 1983 . Pech graduated from his conducting studies in Vienna with Julius Kalmar in 1985 with a diploma.

He has been active as a cantor and organist since 1977, first in Düsseldorf , since 1997 in Wuppertal- Elberfeld at the Old Lutheran Church on Kolk and the Friedhofskirche , and since 2016 as a full-time cantor at the churches mentioned. In 1992, Pech also took up a freelance activity as a concert organist and conductor, which took him through numerous concert engagements at home and abroad.

He has been artistic director and choir director at the Bachverein Düsseldorf since 1989, and in 2003 he took over as conductor of the concert choir of the Volksbühne Wuppertal cultural community. In 1998 he was awarded the title of Music Director by the Association of German Professional Choir Directors. In 2016 he was a laureate of the Enno and Christa Springmann Foundation .
