Thorsten Schmugge (born October 13, 1971 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . He played a total of 147 second division games, in which he scored seven goals.

Career

Thorsten Schmugge joined the youth department at VfL Bochum when he was ten and went through all youth teams there. With the Bochum A-Jugend, he won the DFB Junior Club Cup in 1989 and then played for the VfL amateur team in the Oberliga Westfalen . 1991/92 he was also in the squad of the Bundesliga team, but was not used there.

In 1992 he moved to Wuppertaler SV , which had just been promoted from the Oberliga Nordrhein to the 2nd Bundesliga . There he made his debut as a professional football player on July 25, 1992 and was able to establish himself in the team from then on. With the WSV team around the experienced Dirk Pusch , František Straka and striker Michael Tönnies , he managed to stay in the league. The following season was less successful: In the end, there was relegation to the league and Thorsten Schmugge left the club for 1. FC Saarbrücken . He was also a regular player for Saarland, but joined VfL Bochum a second time after just one season . With VfL he was able to celebrate promotion to the Bundesliga at the end of the 1995/96 season , but was only used eight times. Schmugge went to Scotland to Hibernian Edinburgh , where he came on September 21, 1996 for his first and only league assignment. In the same year he returned to Germany, where he joined the Westphalian league club DJK TuS Hordel . In 1997 he started his last professional position at SG Wattenscheid 09 , which had just been promoted to the second Bundesliga under coach “Jupp” Tenhagen . With the 09ern he was relegated back to the regional league in 1998/99 .

From 2000 to 2002 Thorsten Schmugge played for KFC Uerdingen 05 in the Regionalliga Nord, after failed contract negotiations with the KFC and missing offers from the 2nd Bundesliga, he finally signed a contract with the Lower Saxon upper division club SV Wilhelmshaven . In 2003 he went to league competitor Kickers Emden.

In 2005 he moved to VfB Speldorf , which had just been promoted to the North Rhine Oberliga. The class was held for three years before relegation to the Lower Rhine League in 2008 . In his last year at VfB Speldorf, Schmugge and his team were able to celebrate another remarkable success when they beat Rot-Weiss Essen 2-1 in the Lower Rhine Cup final as a sixth division club . Speldorf was thus qualified for the DFB Cup 2009/10. Thorsten Schmugge ended his playing career that summer and became coach of the ASC 09 Dortmund club , where he was dismissed in September 2009.
