Thorsten Prenzler (* 12. January 1971 in Oldenburg as Thorsten Manfred Thümler ) is a German politician ( AFD , previously to 2010 CDU ). From 2003 to 2005 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament for the Oldenburg-Land constituency . Since 2015 he has been a member of the Hamburg citizenship and holds the office of managing director of the AfD parliamentary group.

education and profession

Prenzler is a trained banker and then studied history / political science at the university there in Hanover . During this time he joined the Ghibellinia-Leipzig fraternity and left it again in the wake of the fraud scandal.

Before his membership in the Lower Saxony state parliament, Prenzler u. a. Press spokesman for the farmers' association in Bonn and the BKK -Landesverband Ost in Berlin and as a policy advisor to the Brandenburg interior minister Jörg Schönbohm in Potsdam . He also worked as a freelance editor while still a student.

Political party

From 1985 Prenzler was a member of the Junge Union . There he was u. a. from 1996 to 1998 deputy chairman of the Oldenburg regional association.

MP

Prenzler was a member of the council of the municipality of Hude and of the district council of the district of Oldenburg . After the CDU won the state elections on February 2, 2003 , Prenzler entered the Lower Saxony state parliament on March 4, 2003 as a directly elected member of the Oldenburg-Land constituency .

His relatively short time as a member of the state parliament was marked by affairs that his party friends raised against him. On June 22, 2005, he resigned his mandate after internal party pressure as a result of his fraud in connection with discounts in luxury hotels, before he was finally convicted of fraud.

Hohmann affair

For the first time, a broader public took notice of Prenzler in connection with the Hohmann affair . The CDU member of the Bundestag Martin Hohmann had given a speech criticized as anti-Semitic and was facing a party and parliamentary group exclusion process. Prenzler then signed an appeal for solidarity initiated by the journalist Fritz Schenk . It was only after massive pressure from within the party that Prenzler distanced himself from his signature and thus prevented his own exclusion process.

Fraud scandals

In 2005 it was discovered by the Nordwest-Zeitung that Prenzler had "sneaked out" discounts or free nights in luxury hotels several times by pretending to be a travel journalist. A hotel press spokeswoman in Binz on Rügen had turned to this newspaper from Prenzler's hometown after she noticed that the politician had deceived her with copies of newspaper articles that he had wrongly presented as his own. The copies had been tampered with by removing the names of the real authors. Thümler was finally convicted of this fraud in 2006 by the Oldenburg Regional Court .

Leaving the CDU and joining the AfD

Prenzler left the CDU in 2010 and joined the AfD in 2013. After the AfD moved into the Hamburg parliament in the 2015 general election, he became the managing director of the AfD parliamentary group.

Kitchenette scandal

The then employee of the parliamentary group Nicole Jordan is said to have been locked in a tea kitchen by Thorsten Prenzler, yelled at loudly and prevented from leaving.

Private

Thorsten Manfred Prenzler is married to Frauke Prenzler, who is a CDU member. They have two children together. After the marriage, he took the surname Prenzler from his wife and dropped the surname Thümler.
