The thromboxane synthase (txas) is the enzyme that the rearrangement of prostaglandin H2 to thromboxane A2 catalysed . TXAS is produced in chordating . In humans, the enzyme is found in platelets , the lungs , the kidneys , the spleen and in macrophages . The reaction product thromboxane promotes the constriction of blood vessels and is the natural antagonist of prostacyclin . Mutations at TBXAS1 - gene can TXAS- and Thromboxanmangel, as well as a (rare) dysplasia lead.

TXAS is a target in the treatment of chronic inflammatory bowel disease and in the treatment of bladder cancer in order to reduce the amount of chemotherapeutic agents used. TXAS production is also increased in colon cancer and prostate cancer .

Catalyzed reaction

PGH2  ⇒  ThrA2

Prostaglandin H2 is rearranged to thromboxane A2. The response is self-regulating.
