occupation

Thunder (also Thunder 1 - The Merciless Loner ) is an Italian action film in the tradition of the spaghetti westerns , which was released in German-speaking countries on November 25, 1983 in a shortened version. Producer Fabrizio De Angelis also directed under his regular pseudonym Larry Ludman .

action

Native American Thunder Martinez returns to his homeland in Arizons. He realizes that the contract the American government signed with his grandfather a hundred years ago is being broken: a construction team is about to destroy his tribe's burial site in order to build an observatory. After a confrontation with the construction workers, he seeks the sheriff, who refuses to give him any help. After being beaten up by the workers, he again seeks the sheriff's help, but is threatened and beaten here too. Thunder steals a bow and arrow in a supermarket and is now hiding on the cemetery hill. He can take out those looking for him individually with cunning and based on his skills. Meanwhile, a journalist is researching the background; the construction company kidnaps Thunder's girlfriend, Sheela. With a stolen bulldozer, Thunder can not only free his girl, but also destroy the police station and the bank, symbols of the area's corrupt rule. The cemetery hill is cremated by a set fire - since according to Indian belief the souls of the ancestors have now been destroyed, Thunder and Sheela leave the area to start again elsewhere.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film was negative : "A dramaturgically carefree, often illogical, asphalt western with lavish action scenes", whose thematically not uninteresting variation suffocates in blood and violence. " Il Patologo expressed himself more positively :" In this mixture of Rambo and Bloody Trail , which was filmed in John Ford's Monument Valley, stands out the monolithic Bo Svenson. All in all, not a bad adventure film. "

Remarks

The film was released in different cut versions and had two sequels with Thunder 2 (1986) and Thunder 3 (1988).
