He joined the Swedish court service as a chancellery junker and became court junker in 1763, chamberlain in 1764 and royal chamberlain in 1766. In 1767 he was archivist of the Royal Order of Majesty (KMO), in 1774 Court Marshal and in 1776 Knight of the North Star Order . In 1782 he was appointed President of the Wismar Tribunal. In the same year he became sub-chancellor of the Order of Majesty. In 1794 he was commander of all orders of majesty and supreme ombudsman of the orders.

After he had signed the contract about the engagement of the Swedish King Gustav IV Adolf to Luise Charlotte zu Mecklenburg in 1795 , which was canceled soon afterwards, he was appointed the Queen's Supreme Marshal and Knight of the Order of the Seraphines . He was considered very rich. It was all the more surprising when shortly after his death his bankruptcy was disclosed.

In 1768 he married Carolina Sophia Freiin von Lantinghausen (* 1749, † 1769), who died the following year. His second marriage was in 1773 with Hedwig Eleonora Countess von Fersen (* July 2, 1753, † November 8, 1792 in Pisa ), the daughter of the Imperial Councilor Count Friedrich Axel von Fersen .
