Tião Viana , actually: Sebastião Afonso Viana Macedo Neves , (born February 9, 1961 in Rio Branco , Acre ) is a Brazilian politician. He is a member of the Brazilian Workers' Party (PT).

Life

Tião Viana first studied medicine at the Universidade Federal do Pará between 1981 and 1986 and specialized in tropical medicine from 1987 at the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro . In 1994 he ran for the first time for political office as governor of Acre, but unsuccessfully. In contrast, his 1998 election to the Brazilian Federal Senate was successful . He took office as Senator for Acre on February 1, 1999 and held it until December 21, 2010. In 2007 he was President of the Federal Senate for almost two months.

He was acting governor of the state of Acre from January 1, 2011 to January 1, 2019, succeeding Binho Marques . He was succeeded by Gladson Cameli .
