Civil engineering workers
The civil engineering worker is a state-recognized training occupation according to the Vocational Training Act and Crafts Code .
Duration of training and structure
The training period to become a civil engineering worker is usually two years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school .
The profession has the focal points
- Road works ,
- Pipeline construction work ,
- Sewer construction work ,
- Well and special civil engineering works as well
- Track construction work .
It is a step training , i. H. A successfully completed training can be deepened in a further training occupation based on it. A civil engineering technicians can therefore learn another year and then a degree in pipe fitters , canal builders , specialized civil engineers or track layers acquire.
Work areas
Civil engineering workers create construction pits , trenches and traffic routes . They carry out earthworks and install supply and disposal systems. They find their job in companies in the construction industry that carry out renovation and repair work, but they can also be employed in new construction.
- With a focus on road construction, they produce paving slabs and paving slabs .
- With a focus on pipeline construction, civil engineering workers manufacture pressure pipelines and carry out pressure tests .
- The focus of the work is on the manufacture of manhole bases .
- With a focus on well construction and special civil engineering work , they produce boreholes and shoring sections .
- With a focus on track construction work, they work in the construction of a railway embankment or in the construction of a track yoke .
Training allowance
The amount of the training allowance is often based on collective bargaining agreements . For example, the Bauindustrieverband Hamburg eV has agreed the following remuneration:
- 1st year of training: 614.00 euros
- 2nd year of training: 943.00 euros.

The number of trainees is falling. In 2001 there were more than 63,000 apprenticeship positions in the construction industry , in 2006 there were only just under 42,000.
