Tigist Getent Mekonen (born July 7, 1997 ) is a Bahraini obstacle runner of Ethiopian origin who has been eligible to compete in Bahrain since 2015.

Athletic career

Tigist Getent Mekonen gained her first international experience at the 2015 Arab Championships in Manama , where she won the silver medal behind her compatriot Ruth Jebet in 9: 42.01 minutes . In October she took part in the Military World Games in Mungyeon , South Korea , where she won the bronze medal in 9: 41.46 minutes. The following year she won the Arab Junior Championships in Tlemcen in 10: 02.68 min and won the silver medal behind the Kenyan Celliphine Chepteek Chespol at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz in 9: 34.08 min . She also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated with 9: 49.92 min in the preliminary round. In 2017 she won the bronze medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku and qualified for the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated with 9: 55.42 minutes in advance . In 2018 she was registered for the Asian Games in Jakarta , but did not appear there at short notice.

In 2014 Mekonen became Ethiopian champion in the obstacle course.
