Ruth Jebet (born November 17, 1996 ) is a Bahraini obstacle and long distance runner of Kenyan origin.

Athletic career

In 2013 she won the Asian Athletics Championships over 3000 meters obstacle.

The following year she won the same discipline at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene , came third at the Continental Cup in Marrakech and triumphed at the Asian Games in Incheon . In the Corrida de Houilles she came second.

At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , she came eleventh over a 3000 meter obstacle.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she won gold over the 3000 meter obstacle. At the Diamond League meeting in Paris on August 27, 2016, she beat Gulnara Galkina's previous world record from 2008 by six seconds with 8: 52.78 minutes . On July 20, 2018, she lost the record to the Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech , who ran 8:44:32 min at the Herculis in Monaco.

At the 2017 World Championships in London , she was surprisingly only fifth in the final of the 3000 meter obstacle course with 9: 13.96 min, after she had led to the last lap. At the Diamond League final in Zurich she won with a world best for the year of 8: 55.29 minutes.

Doping ban

In July 2018, the independent integrity commission (AIU) of the world association IAAF announced that Jebet had been provisionally suspended in February 2018 because of a positive doping test on December 1, 2017. She is accused of taking EPO . In March 2020 she was therefore banned for four years.
