Celliphine Chepteek Chespol (born March 23, 1999 in Mount Elgon District ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in the obstacle course .

Athletic career

Chespol celebrated her first international success at the age of 16 when she won the 2000-meter obstacle course at the 2015 World Youth Championships in Cali. In the following year she made her debut in the IAAF Diamond League with a seventh place at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix and achieved a world best in the U18 age group with 9: 24.73 minutes over 3000 meters obstacle. At the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz three months later she won by a large margin. In addition, she won the 3000 meter obstacle course at the ISTAF Berlin .

In 2017, Chespol finished third in the junior women's race at the World Cross Country Championships in Kampala and led the Kenyan team to the silver medal in the team standings. At the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, she won the obstacle course in the junior world record time of 8: 58.78 minutes and thus took second place on the all-time world best list. At the World Championships in London , she finished sixth in 9: 15.04 minutes.

At the 2018 African Cross Country Championships in Ech Cheliff, Chespol won the women's 10-kilometer race. A good three weeks later she won the silver medal in the obstacle course at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast behind the Jamaican Aisha Praught . In July she successfully defended her obstacle course title at the Junior World Championships in Tampere and ran a new championship record with her winning time of 9: 12.78 minutes. At the African Championships in Asaba , she finished second behind the world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech .

Chespol is trained by her husband Boniface Ndiwa.
