Aisha Praught-Leer (born December 14, 1989 in Moline , United States ) is a Jamaican middle-distance and obstacle runner .

Athletic career

Aisha Praught-Leer, who was born in the United States, competed in US championships up to and including 2014. She obtained Jamaican citizenship in 2015 after tracing her biological father two years earlier. Starting for Jamaica, she gained her first international experience at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , where she was disqualified in the preliminary stages. The following year, she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the first time , where she finished 14th in the final in 9: 34.20 minutes . In 2017 she made it to the final at the World Championships in London , in which she was disqualified again. In 2018 she took part in the 1500 meter run at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she finished sixth in 4: 12.86 minutes. She then won the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast in 9: 21.00 min in the obstacle course. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , she won the silver medal over 1500 meters with a time of 4: 08.26 minutes.

In 2015, Praught-Leer became the Jamaican champion in the 1,500 meter run. She has been married to US middle-distance runner Will Leer since October 17, 2016 and has been running under the name Praught-Leer since then .
