The Tillysee is an inland lake in the Oldenburg district , near the southern city limits of the city of Oldenburg . He belongs to the municipality of Wardenburg .

description

The lake is located around one kilometer southeast of the village of Tungeln and around 1.2 kilometers northeast of the village of Wardenburg, immediately west of the Hunte . The closest, albeit very small, villages are the small settlement Südheide, around 500 meters west of the west bank and Bei der Iburg directly on the south bank.

The water area is 11.3 hectares and the circumference of the lake is around 1.3 kilometers. Relatively regular in shape, the distance from this side to the other bank is between 300 and a maximum of 500 meters. The lake is only around three meters above sea level, around three meters lower than the nearby Hunte, which is diked at this point, into which it consequently does not drain directly. Immediately to the west of the lake is a forest area of around 14 hectares. The Tillyhügel is located southwest of Lake Tilly . The lake and hill were named after the military leader and general of the Thirty Years' War Johann T'Serclaes von Tilly .

Half of the Tillysee belongs to the fishing association Wardenburg e. V. and the other half to the Naturschutzbund.

Dealing with the bathing ban

Swimming is officially prohibited in the lake. Nevertheless, the water is unofficially a popular bathing lake for the residents and residents of southern Oldenburg ( Kreyenbrück , Bümmerstede and others). There is no regulated waste disposal and sanitary facilities, in Internet forums there are reports about sometimes massive waste problems in the lawn area. In July 2013, a 30-year-old slipped from a foam mat into the water and drowned.
