Tilman Sauerbruch

Tilman Sauerbruch (born July 9, 1946 in Lauingen an der Donau ) is a German gastroenterologist . From 1992 to 2012 he was Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic I, General Internal Medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.

Life

Tilman Sauerbruch is a grandson of the surgeon Ferdinand Sauerbruch . He studied from 1966 to 1971 in Würzburg ( preclinical ), Hamburg and Heidelberg (clinic). After receiving his doctorate in 1971 at the University of Heidelberg , he continued his training as an internist and gastroenterologist from 1972 to 1979 (Heidelberg, Pforzheim , Munich ). From 1979 to 1983 he completed his scientific clinical training as a university assistant at the Medical Clinic II, Großhadern Clinic of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing his habilitation in 1984 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, he became a C2 professor there in 1984 . From 1983 to 1992 he was senior physician at the Medical Clinic II, Großhadern Clinic of the University of Munich and authorized training officer for gastroenterology. In 1991 he became C3 Professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. In 1992 he became a full professor at the Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn and was in charge of the Clinic for General Internal Medicine. From 2000 to 2005 he was Vice Dean and Dean of the Medical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. From 2012 to 2014 he was Professor of Internal Medicine and Acting Director of the Clinic for Gastroenterology and Endocrinology at the University Medical Center Göttingen .

His clinical and scientific focus is on the pathogenesis and treatment of portal hypertension in biliary tract diseases and liver cirrhosis .

honors and awards

Sauerbruch has received various prizes and awards. Among other things, he received the Körber Prize for European Science in 1985 , the Lucie Bolte Prize from the Lucie Bolte Foundation in 1992 , the Ludwig Heilmeyer Gold Medal in 2014 and the Recognition Award from the European Association for the Study of the Liver . The German Society for Internal Medicine awarded Tilman Sauerbruch honorary membership in 2016 and the Leopold Lichtwitz Medal in 2020 .
