Tilman and Karl-Friedrich König
Tilman (born October 6, 1979 in Erfurt ) and Karl-Friedrich König (born September 14, 1982 in Erfurt) are German film directors and film producers who often work in the field of independent film . They often direct together in their feature films and documentaries.
Act
Tilman and Karl-Friedrich König are sons of the youth pastor Lothar König and brothers of the politician Katharina König-Preuss . As a scholarship holder at Waseda University Tokyo, Tilman König made several films with the SHINAKEN film group from 2001 to 2002 . In 2002 Tilman and Karl-Friedrich König founded the film group Cinemabstruso at the University of Leipzig, on which they shot a series of films that were shown at numerous festivals and won various awards.
In the course of the educational strikes in 2003/2004 at various German universities, in 2004 they shot a public performance of so-called “strike porn ” under the Karl Marx relief with students, which caused a sensation nationally and internationally.
Between 2006 and 2013 they curated the international film festival “Night of Radical Films”, at which experimental and political short films were shown.
Both brothers completed the TP2 talent pool for young directors and producers in Central Germany. Karl-Friedrich König also worked as a tutor on the program.
In their films, the brothers often deal with the topics of migration, racism, loneliness and individuality. Part of her artistic way of working is the conscious use of amateur actors and improvisation. Many of her feature films have a satirical or grotesque character and mix several genres with one another.
Your last feature film, the grotesque “The Black Nazi”, is about a Congolese refugee who metamorphosed evolves into the “most German of all Germans” and finally overtakes the neo-Nazis from the right and disputes their ideology. They brought the independent film, largely financed by crowdfunding , to cinemas nationwide in self-rental. In doing so, they rely on some sensational performative actions - such as a visit to PEGIDA , in which they linked politics, art and marketing. The film was shown at several festivals a. a. at the festival contre le racisme , at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung in the series "The special film" and at Spiegel-Online as "Film for the weekend". For DVD and VOD sales, they were able to win the major rental company Studio Hamburg .
