Tim Clark ( Timothy Henry Clark ; born December 17, 1975 in Durban ) is a South African professional golfer of the North American PGA TOUR .
Career
His father taught him to play golf at the age of three. In 1994 he played in the South African team in the Eisenhower Trophy . Later in the United States, he attended North Carolina State University and had a successful career as a college golfer. Clark won the US Amateur Public Links Championship in 1997 , qualified for the 1998 Masters in Augusta and then started his professional career.
He first tried his hand at the regional Canadian Tour , where he won twice, then played on the Buy.com Tour (second performance level) and qualified after two tournament victories for the 2001 season on the top-ranking PGA TOUR . Because of a wrist injury and subsequent surgery, Clark was only able to take part in three tournaments in his first season. But he was allowed to stay on the tour by means of a medically justified exception to play. Clark has not yet won a PGA Tour event, but has drawn attention to himself with three top 3 placements in majors - most recently a second place at the Masters 2006. He also won three tournaments that are part of the European Tour the money list of the Sunshine Tour in the 2001/02 season, and was temporarily among the top 50 in the golf world rankings . In May 2010, Clark won the Players Championship , which is his most significant success to date.
Tim Clark played in the international team at the Presidents Cup several times and represented his country at the WGC World Cup in 2002 and 2005.
His caddy , Gary Matthews, is an excellent golfer himself who wins the off-tour caddy championships in series.
Clark is based in Scottsdale , Arizona .
