Timothy Chin-tien Yang

Timothy Chin-tien Yang ( Chinese : 楊 進 添) (born July 1, 1942 in Erlin , Changhua County , Taiwan ) is a diplomat and politician of the Republic of China (Taiwan) .

biography

Yang graduated in diplomacy at Chengchi National University , which he with a Bachelor graduated in Diplomacy. He then joined the diplomatic service in 1969 . After appropriate training and further training, he became section head in the European Department of the Foreign Ministry in 1983 and then from 1984 to 1986 secretary in the secretariat of the Foreign Minister. There he was then appointed Deputy Director General of the Secretariat, before he was Taiwan's representative in Ireland from 1988 to 1991 as head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office . This was followed by a position as director general of the economic and cultural bureau in Houston and from 1995 to 1999 as director general of the Africa department in the State Department.

From 1999 to 2000 he was not only Secretary General of the Foreign Minister's Secretariat, but also chairman of the Research and Planning Committee of the Foreign Ministry. This was followed by a position as head of the economic and cultural office and representative of Taiwan in Australia until 2005 . After his return, he became Director General of the Institute for the Diplomatic Service, before he was last head of the Economic and Cultural Office and representative in Indonesia from 2007 to 2009 .

After the resignation of the entire previous cabinet of Prime Minister Liu Chao-shiuan , he was appointed by President Ma Ying-jeou to succeed Francisco Ou as Foreign Minister on September 10, 2009 at the suggestion of the new Prime Minister Wu Den-yih and held this office until September 27, 2012.
