The Tinau ( Nepali तिनाउ ) is a left tributary of the Dano in the Lumbini administrative zone in southern Nepal .

The Tinau rises in the Mahabharat , the mountainous region of the Front Himalayas , at an altitude of about 3500  m . The Tinau flows through the Front Himalayas, mainly flowing along the mountain ranges in an east-west and west-east direction. The river drains the southern part of the Palpa district . It finally breaks through the Siwaliks and at Butwal reaches the Rupandehi district and the Terai , the plain in front of the Himalayas. In Butwal, the dano splits off on the right. In the lower reaches of the Tinau flows in a south-south-westerly direction past the city of Siddharthanagar and finally meets the Dano again shortly before the Indian border near Lumbini Sanskritik , who picks it up. The Dano continues to flow in a south-southwestern direction, crosses the border to Uttar Pradesh and finally flows into the Rapti after another 50 kilometers .
