Tista Murk

Tista Murk , actually Johann Baptista Murk , (born April 15, 1915 in Müstair ; † August 18, 1992 in Trun ) was a Swiss writer who worked mainly in Vallader , but also in Jauer , Sursilvan , Rumantsch Grischun , German, Italian and French wrote and is considered one of the most important playwrights in Romansh literature.

Live and act

Tista Murk attended schools in Müstair, Disentis and Sarnen. From 1935 to 1942 he studied in Freiburg im Üechtland , in Bern and Paris . From 1937 he worked as a freelancer for the Federal Department of Home Affairs. In 1938 he founded the Münstertal magazine Il giuven Jauer ( The young Münstertaler ).

In 1946 he founded the Rhaeto-Romanic writers' association Union da Scripturas e Scripturs Rumantsch . From 1946 to 1958 he was the cantonal librarian in Chur, and from 1958 to 1968 he worked for the Romansh department of Swiss television in German and Romansh Switzerland. From 1969 to 1979 he headed the Swiss People's Library.

In addition to his work as a theater writer, Murk worked as a poet, translator, director, librarian, television and radio maker and journalist. Murk was married to Anna Mathilde Gafner. The main hall of the new library of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences was named after Murk .
