Titanic II (ship)
A planned cruise ship is known as the Titanic II , which is said to have a great resemblance to the RMS Titanic , which sank in 1912 . The operator of the project is Clive Palmer .
history
The ship was originally supposed to be completed in 2018 for the Blue Star Line shipping company . Markku Kanerva was appointed as chief designer. The Finnish company Deltamarin received the project planning contract. The first towing tests and self-propulsion tests of a 9.3 m long model were carried out in September 2013 at the Hamburgische Schiffbau-Versuchsanstalt . The cost of the Titanic II was estimated at $ 500 million. The ship is to be built by CSC Jinling in Nanjing .
The project has since been discontinued due to financial difficulties. At the end of September 2018, Clive Palmer announced that the project to rebuild the Titanic would be resumed. Accordingly, the ship should be put into service in 2022. After the first trips to Dubai and from there to Southampton , the ship is to be used on the Southampton - New York route in the summer months and for worldwide cruises in the rest of the time.
Compared to the RMS Titanic
"It will be the safest cruise ship in the world."
The Titanic II was to be largely similar to the RMS Titanic , but Palmer had announced differences to the model ship: a casino was to be installed, as well as air conditioning and stabilizers .
The Titanic II was supposed to be four meters wider than the original for better stability. There should also be a theater , various shops and the casino . The two front chimneys were planned as mock- ups and should contain viewing galleries. The existing rudder was only intended as a dummy. The maximum speed should be around 23 knots .
Reactions
A descendant of the director of the White Star Line , Bruce Ismay and the great-granddaughter of the Titanic survivor Molly Brown took part in the ship project . After Ismay announced the Titanic II on April 30, 2012, ticket requests for the maiden voyage were already 40,000 ten months later, with 16 people offering to pay around one million US dollars. Pat Lacey, great-great-niece of Captain Edward John Smith , however, considers the plans to be disrespectful to the victims.
