Field of activity

The traditional main business is the mountain railway operation. This includes the funicular Engelberg Gerschnialp , the cable cars Engelberg-Gerschnialp and Gerschnialp-Trübsee, the cable cars Gerschnialp-Trübsee Trübsee-Stand, the aerial tramway TITLIS ROTAIR Stand-Titlis. The last two are also known collectively as the Titlis cable car . There are also seven additional chairlifts and the Ice Flyer glacier ski lift . The mountain railway company contributes two thirds to the total turnover of the Engelberg-Trübsee-Titlis mountain railways, of which around 60 percent is accounted for by winter operations and almost 40 percent by summer operations .

The gastronomy area, which is run under the Titlis Gastroland brand , includes several restaurants and kiosks at the Titlis summit station as well as at the Stand, Trübsee and the valley station in Engelberg. The company also has the Terrace Hotel in Engelberg and the Trübseehof mountain hotel above Engelberg at the Trübsee station. The gastronomy and hotel sectors contribute 20 and 14 percent respectively to the total turnover of the Engelberg-Trübsee-Titlis mountain railways.

history

The company emerged in 1982 from the merger of the Engelberg-Gerschnialp AG (DEG) cable car founded in 1911 and the Gerschnialp-Trübsee AG (LGT) cable car founded in 1926 . These were joined in 1992 by the Trübsee-Kleintitlis AG (LTKT) cable cars and in 1998 by the Trübsee-Jochpass-Engstlensee AG (BTJE) cable cars together with the Jochpass-Jochstock AG ski lift and chairlift .

The mountain railway companies that were originally independent of each other were initially founded for the construction of certain railway operations. The first of these was the Engelberg-Gerschnialp funicular, which DEG put into operation in January 1913 . In December 1927, the Gerschnialp-Trübsee aerial cableway, built by the Leipzig company Bleichert Transportanlagen GmbH, was put into operation by LGT. The Trübsee-Jochpass ski lift was opened in December 1943, while the Trübsee-Kleintitlis aerial cableway was put into operation by LTKT in two steps in the summer of 1965 and in the spring of 1967. Over the years, the systems have been continuously modernized and expanded. One of the highlights was the opening in December 1992 of the world's first aerial tramway gondolas, TITLIS ROTAIR , in which the cabin floor rotates on its own axis during the journey. This cable car runs between the Stand mountain station and the Titlis summit station. The gondolas were renewed in November 2014, and since then the entire gondola has been rotating on its own axis as another world first.

In addition to the mountain railway business, other tourism services were added over time, initially in the catering sector with the opening of the first self-service restaurant at the Stand station in the winter of 1966/1967 and the panorama restaurant on the Titlis in 1972. These two others followed. The company later also entered the hotel industry and began offering other tourism services in the field of leisure activities.
