Hans Wicki (born February 18, 1964 in Lucerne , entitled to live in Menznau and Horw ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP. The Liberals ).

Life

Wicki grew up in Hergiswil and Wolfenschiessen . He attended St. Fidelis College in Stans . From 1992 to 1997 he studied economics at the University of Zurich and graduated with the title lic. oec. publ. from.

Wicki worked for two banks and was most recently managing director of an electrical engineering company in Switzerland and South Africa. From 2000 to 2010 he was a member of the Hergiswil municipal council, which he chaired from 2006 to 2010. From July 2010 he was government councilor of the canton of Nidwalden for six years . He held office there as construction director and as deputy finance director. In the Official year 2014/2015 he was state governor in office year 2015/2016 Landammann . In the elections on October 18, 2015 , he was elected to the Council of States and took office on November 30, 2015. In the 2019 elections , he was quietly confirmed in office.

Wicki has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2014 and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bergbahnen Engelberg-Trübsee-Titlis AG since 2016 . Wicki was elected President of Seilbahnen Schweiz on October 24, 2019 . He sits down u. a. for more financial aid for snowmaking . He was also elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grimselbahn AG at the end of January 2020.

On October 17, 2018, he announced his interest in succeeding Johann Schneider-Ammann in the Federal Council and was officially nominated as a Federal Council candidate alongside Karin Keller-Sutter by the FDP Switzerland on November 16, 2018 . In the election on December 5, 2018 , he received 56 votes; The favored Karin Keller-Sutter was elected, in the first ballot with 154 votes.

Hans Wicki lives with his wife Monika Wicki-Hess and their two children in Hergiswil.
