List of cable cars in Switzerland

The list of Swiss cable cars contains predominantly publicly usable commercial and after timetable circulating cable cars : aerial tramways and gondolas with closed cabins and chairlifts in Switzerland and Liechtenstein .

The branch is represented by the Swiss Cableways ; The President is currently the Council of States Hans Wicki .

Different cable cars are divided into individual sections (sections), as the drive of a cable car cannot be designed to be arbitrarily strong and the height difference or the length can be limiting. In the case of aerial cableways, you have to change at the respective intermediate stations, but the gondolas of a gondola lift continue over several sections.

In the opinion of the emeritus head of the Institute for Lightweight Construction and Cable Car Technology at ETH Zurich , Gabor Oplatka, cable cars are the safest means of transport in Switzerland. Their operation ran from 2002 to 2007 without any fatally injured passengers. In 2007, around 8 out of 100 million passengers were injured. From 2007 to 2011 39 accidents occurred on the Swiss funicular and cable cars with 2 deaths and 38 seriously injured, whereby a total of 1182 accidents with 168 deaths and 860 seriously injured were registered on all public transport in Switzerland.
