The Oberrothorn is 3414 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the canton of Valais , near Zermatt . The Oberrothorn is located around 6 km east of Zermatt.
The completely ice-free summit structure and a marked path, most recently over the broad, rubble-covered southeast ridge, make the Oberrothorn one of the highest "hiking peaks" in the Alps. The Oberrothorn offers a comprehensive view of over twenty four-thousand-meter peaks in the Valais Alps , including the Dom , Täschhorn , Rimpfischhorn , Strahlhorn , Monte Rosa , Matterhorn , Dent Blanche , Ober Gabelhorn , Zinalrothorn and Weisshorn .
Ascent
An ascent from Zermatt via Findeln and the Berghaus Fluhalp takes about 5 hours due to the altitude difference of 1,800 m . With the Métro Sunnegga ( 2288 m above sea level ) and the subsequent cable cars to Blauherd ( 2580 m above sea level ) and Unterrothorn ( 3104 m above sea level ), the ascent time can be drastically reduced.
