Rafters ( Valais German Sparru ) is a spring pasture the municipality of St. Niklaus (Valais German Zaniglas ) in the Valais district Visp .

Sparren is located at 1905  m on the left flank of the valley above St. Niklaus Dorf ( 1120  m above sea level , Valais German Zaniglas ) and can be reached on foot via a narrow path, which before crossing the Jungbach stream at an altitude of 1390  m above sea level M. branches off from the Jungerweg .

The settlement comprises seventeen mostly historical buildings, which are located on the slope between 1800  m above sea level. M. and 1920  m above sea level. M. on Unter ( Valais German Unner ) and Ober rafter. The historical buildings are log houses made of larch wood with roofs made of solid stone slabs .

Passenger cable car

A passenger cable car leads from St. Niklaus Dorf to the settlement at 1870  m above sea level. M. , whose valley station ( 1147  m above sea level ) south of the Jean-Paul Brigger sports field not far above the St. Niklaus train station ( 1126.7  m above sea level ) of the Brig-Visp-Zermatt railway line of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway lies. The cable car is a cooperatively organized private railway and was built in 2001. The cabin of the single-lane aerial tramway with suspension cable and a closed pull cable loop can hold 4 people or 320 kg of material.

Hiking trails

  • From Sparren ( 1905  m above sea level ) to Jungs ( 1960  m above sea level ) via the Barackenweg to the Moosalp – Jungs high path ,
  • from Sparren into the Jungtal ( 2387  m above sea level ) to the Weisshornweg (see below "Wasserleita" (bisse) and hike ),
  • from Sparen to Sällflue ( 2137  m above sea level ) and to Sälli ( 1915  m above sea level ) and
  • from rafters to Teli ( 1611  m above sea level ).
