Cardada is a place and vantage point with a restaurant ( 1,332 m above sea level ) in the Swiss canton of Ticino above the municipality of Orselina on the ( 1,671 m above sea level ) high mountain Cimetta , the summit of which is a little northeast and where there is also a restaurant . It is often referred to as Locarno's local mountain .
history
A chairlift and three ski lifts have been built on Cimetta, providing access to 5.4 kilometers of slopes. They were built by Ulisse Del-Grande (father of Justa Del-Grande, Swiss national team ski race). Until 1999 the ski facilities were operated by Ulisse Del-Grande as the owner; In the following years a stock corporation was founded which still operates the ski lifts, provided that the different snow conditions allow it in winter.
Viewpoints
From the geological observation station on Cimetta you can see the Maggia delta between Locarno and Ascona - the lowest point in Switzerland, to Monte Rosa - the highest point in Switzerland.
On the southwestern edge of Cardada is a "crossover" designated landscaped by Paolo Bürgi designed bridge, passing between the trees of the falling here forest to the viewpoint Ponte sospeso Cardada leads of a panoramic view of the lake, the Centovalli and part of the Maggia Valley offers.
Lanes
The Funicolare Locarno – Madonna del Sasso (FLMS) cable car connects the city center of Locarno with the pilgrimage church of Madonna del Sasso , which is located on a promontory above Locarno in the municipality of Orselina. In Orselina there is a connection to the valley station of the cable car to Cardada, which is right next to the FLMS mountain station .
In 1952 the first Orselina – Cardada cable car with two 24-person cabins was built by von Roll . The Cardada – Cimetta chairlift and three ski lifts followed between 1956 and 1965 . Over the years, the railways have been rebuilt and modernized several times. In 2000 the cable car to Cardada was completely rebuilt. The design of the 40-seater cabins as well as the valley and mountain station was created by the Ticino architect Mario Botta . The equally outstanding and historically valuable station structures of the predecessor line of the well-known Ticino architects Brivio & Pedrazzini fell victim to the new line.
Hiking area
The area around Cardada includes several hiking trails that are difficult to master. From Cardada and Cimetta, mountain hiking trails lead to Cima della Trosa ( 1869 m above sea level ) and to Madone ( 2039 m above sea level ). Cardada lies between the Maggia Valley and the Verzasca Valley . Cardada (or Cimmetta) is therefore the ideal starting point for hikes in both valleys: to Avegno in the Maggia Valley and to Mergoscia in the Verzasca Valley.
