To Kill a Killer ( Para matar a un asesino ) is an American direct-to-video - Action thriller that coming from Uruguay director Ricardo Islas .

The 16mm film was shot in Chicago , Waukegan and Joliet, as well as on farms in the US state of Indiana . The production was first shown on April 19, 2007 at the 23rd Chicago Latino Film Festival . The German DVD was first released on August 21, 2008.

The Mexican professional killer Salomón González leads a carefree life in luxury with his wife Anabelle. However, the birth of their daughter Jazmín changed the beefy hit man forever. Salomón advances to a loving family man who, despite his bloody work and much to the chagrin of his wife, reflects on the path of virtue in a kind of self-discovery phase. However, his new meaning in life leads to problems when he finds photos of children on his next assignment , the killing of a well-known US journalist, and therefore spares them. Fearing for his family and possible acts of revenge, he hastily flees with his relatives to the United States, where he settles in Chicago.

Salomón starts a new, withdrawn life here and hires as a poorly paid parking attendant. The killer who wants to quit lives with his family in poor conditions next to other Latino immigrants on the outskirts of the metropolis. During this time Anabelle finds it visibly difficult to adapt to the new surroundings, she mourns her former luxurious life.

Years later, Salomón's former client, Marcus Andrade, tracks him down through an intermediary. Anabelle recognizes the moment and urges her husband to pursue the craft of murder again in order to be able to live far away from any financial constraints. Salomón gets a second chance. His job is to track down a perverted psychopath who kidnapped Andrades older daughter, brutally murdered and filmed the crime. Meanwhile, an advance on the possible head bonus enables Salomón's family to lead a carefree life.

The contract killer immediately goes on the trail of the "Murderer of Juárez ", a notorious serial killer. Soon there are indications that the wanted man is supposed to be in Chicago. Via the younger daughter of Andrades, Daity, Salomón finally gets on the trail of a lecturer who, after finding incriminating material, quickly liquidates him, not knowing that his victim has a brother who is the one he is looking for. Meanwhile, Anabelle kills her attending psychologist during a therapy session, driven by fear of losing her daughter.

The brother of the killed lecturer and alleged serial killer finally murdered Andrade and his family in a vengeful manner. Then he tries to kill Salomón and Anabelle, but they turn out to be serious opponents and in turn kill the astonished attacker. The local media then celebrate the two as "heroes" in the belief that the wanted Juárez killer was caught during a break-in and killed in self-defense. In the last scene of the film, the dead man is charged with various murders, including a mysterious killing of a psychologist - Anabelle's act remains unpunished. The González's life normalizes at the end of the film.

Blickpunkt: Film wrote that the film was a "crude low-budget thriller with a lot of blood and a sense of family."

The film magazine VideoWoche wrote that it was not easy to keep track of the staging due to the “montage that took some getting used to” and the “cumbersome nested story” . Splatter fans in particular would get their money's worth at the “weird trash pearl for genre viewers” .
