Tobias Dietrich

Tobias Dietrich (* 1972 in Kirchen an der Sieg ) is a German historian specializing in history didactics . He is also a textbook author.

Life

After graduating from high school , Dietrich studied history, Catholic religious studies, German and pedagogy at the University of Trier . In 1998 he passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools . From 1998 to 2001 he was a scholarship holder of the graduate college "Western Europe in a comparative historical perspective" at the University of Trier. Under the supervision of Lutz Raphael wrote his dissertation denomination in the village and in 2002 a doctorate . In 2003, his work was also awarded the “Friends of Trier University” sponsorship award. - From 2001 to 2003 Dietrich completed his legal clerkship for teaching at grammar schools, which he completed in 2003 with the second state examination. Since 2003 he has been employed in the school service of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. From 2004 to 2010 he worked with teaching assignments as a specialist in history at the study seminar for the teaching post in Koblenz ; he has been employed there full-time since 2010.

Due to the teaching profession, Dietrich dealt increasingly with topics of contemporary history and history didactics from 2004 . This resulted in a monograph on Martin Luther King and several articles for the anthology The 1970s in History and Teaching . In 2011 he was appointed to the editorial board of the magazine Praxis Geschichte , where he still works today. His publications also include various articles on history teaching and topics in the field of history.

Between 2004 and 2014 Dietrich regularly held teaching positions at the University of Trier. He has been there since 2014 as a lecturer in history didactics in partial delegation. He is also employed in a partial secondment as a teacher for special tasks at the History Department of the University of Mainz .

Research interests

Dietrich's research interests span areas such as Western European social history, transatlantic cultural history, physical history and sports history, but also theory and practice of historical comparison, microhistory and didactics of contemporary history.

One focus of his work is history didactics. This deals with the theoretical foundations and the systematic design of processes of historical learning and teaching. Another focus is the research of individual and collective structures of interpretation in dealing with history in schools and in public. As a member of the Leibniz research group, Dietrich deals with the phenomenon of “running” as a consequence “after the boom”.
