Tobias Egli (* 1534 in Zurich ; † November 15, 1574 in Chur ) was a Swiss Reformed pastor and Antistes of the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod .

Life

Tobias Egli was born in Zurich in 1534. The original name of his family was Götz. He attended schools in his hometown and was in Marburg around 1557 . In 1558 he was ordained and took over the pastorate in Weiach . In the same year he became a pastor in Frauenfeld .

Because he was very committed to the Reformation there, the Catholics sued Egli in 1561. He escaped the sentence of imprisonment by fleeing back to Zurich. In Davos he served as pastor from May 1561 after being accepted into the Graubünden Synod . In the spring of 1563 he moved again because his wife did not like the remoteness of the small village.

Two years later he took over the parish in Russikon . When the then Antistes Johannes Fabricius Montanus died in 1566 , Egli took over his office. In Chur he was confronted with several difficult situations around Johannes Gantner and died there on November 15, 1574 of the plague .

Egli's life was strongly influenced by his mentor Heinrich Bullinger , who made it possible for him to hold pastor positions and the position as Antistes .
