The son of a reformed pastor studied at the University of Basel from 1651 and then in 1653 at the University of Strasbourg . 1661 he became councilor in Schaffhausen then 1665 Vogt Richter, 1666 Zunftmeister of Gerber, from 1668 to 1669 he was an honorary ambassador to the Ennetbirgischen bailiwicks , 1672 Seckelmeister the town of Schaffhausen, from 1673 he often exercised the office as an envoy to the Tagsatzungen from 1679 he was Obervogt Via Thayngen , 1682 governor, 1683 mayor of the city of Schaffhausen and from 1698 unconstitutional third mayor. In 1684 he acquired a property in the small town of Hofen for eleven thousand guldins from the good place Schaffhauser Müntz and built the Holländerhaus here 3 years later, which was then named after him . Here he maintained his own small bodyguard, including a parade ground and barracks .

His high-handed behavior led to considerable disagreements in the republican city-state, he resigned out of annoyance in 1695, but was reappointed in 1698, he was too important to be without him. So he traveled to Vienna from 1699 to 1701 to lead negotiations on the purchase of sovereign rights over the Upper Austrian Reiat , which initially remained unsuccessful for Schaffhausen due to the Büsinger trade . Emperor Leopold I awarded him the title of Berau in 1678 .

He collected coins and published essays on them with Sebastian Fäsch that appeared in print. He also set up a valuable library. In 1669 he wrote a work on astronomy and the sovereignty of the Reiat.

His daughter Elisabeth was court lady in Heidelberg and in 1679 married Elector Karl I Ludwig von Pfalz on the left hand side .
