Tobias Jesso Jr. (* 1985 in Vancouver ) is a Canadian musician and songwriter who released his debut album in 2015.
Career
Tobias Jesso Jr. was born in Vancouver . In 2008 he moved to Los Angeles to become a professional bass player , but returned to his hometown after four years. There he learned the piano and tried to do it as a singer.
After demo releases, his debut album Goon was released in 2015 on the label True Panther Sounds ( Matador Records ). His music style has been compared to singer-songwriters who were successful in the 60s and 70s, such as Randy Newman , a declared favorite of Jesso, or Harry Nilsson and Todd Rundgren. For the music magazine Rolling Stone , Jesso was one of the “Biggest Breakouts” of 2015 with his album Goon .
As a songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. worked with Adele , among other things for their song When We Were Young , and wrote the song Alive with Sia and Adele , which was released as a single by Sia. He also worked as a songwriter for Pink , Niall Horan , Shawn Mendes and John Legend .
